Manual data migrations are error prone and time consuming, but a necessary evil as windows file servers run out of space, technology is refreshed, or environments develop hot spots.
Solutions such as AutoVirt, that allow users to automate the process and migrate data based on set policies, reduce the risk and manpower associated with performing migrations. Because the solution is completely out of band and migrations are performed as a background task, migrations happen faster and users see virtually no performance impact.

AutoVirt offers a new approach to the growth of unstructured data
When to use AutoVirt
How it works
AutoVirt virtualizes access to your NAS devices and Windows file servers by building a global namespace: a service in your network that receives client requests for files and returns the appropriate storage location. The AutoVirt global namespace allows your clients to use their shortcuts and embedded links, even after you’ve moved the files they reference.
The AutoVirt Global Namespace is integrated with data asessment and data movement functionality. When you move data using AutoVirt, the namespace is updated accordingly.
AutoVirt's namespace technology also allows you to create logical views of shares - regardless of their physical location in the network - and provide these ideas for your users to browse. You can use this functionality to organize user data without changing the underlying storage.
